Volunteer

The Children's Course/The First Tee of Greater Portland is always grateful to anyone who would like to volunteer their time. We welcome people who can help in all areas, including:

  • ASSISTANT COACHES
    Volunteers work with coaches to teach both "Life Skills" and golf skills.  Assistant coaches work directly with kids and help in planning and delivering The First Tee Life Skills Experience.
    Time commitment- Classes run for eight weeks and require a 1.5 hour per week commitment.  Classes are typically held Monday through Saturdays.


  • EVENTS AND FUNDRAISING VOLUNTEERS
    The Children's Course/The First Tee of Greater Portland hosts and plans many events and fundraisers each year.  Help is needed for the planning and execution of these events in a variety of capacities, including (but not limited to): set-up of events, assistance with registration, greeting guests, and check-out.  Opportunities are available throughout the year.
    Time commitment- Flexible for volunteers.

  • STARTER
    The starter insures that golfers get off the first tee in a prompt and orderly manner.  This job is crucial in keeping the tee times on time.  Starters must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to handle customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
    Time commitment- Flexible for volunteers.


  • MENTORS
    The First Tee Mentors learn how to build relationships with youth, create learning opportunities, and provide youth with opportunities for self-discovery an personal growth.  We are seeking positive role models for our golfers to participate in both golf activities and other outings.
    Time commitment This is a once a month commitment of 2-4 hours, and a minimum of 12 month commitment.


  • COURSE MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEERS
    The First Tee of Greater Portland operates many of its programs at The Children's Course - a par-3 golf course located in Gladstone.  Volunteers are needed to maintain these facilities to make the course playable for both the children and the community.  Help is needed with jobs such as blowing leaves, mowing fairways, or painting the clubhouse.
    Time Commitment- Opportunities are available throughout the year and the time commitment is flexible for volunteers.

  • ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS
    The Children's Course/The First Tee of Greater Portland needs help organizing chaos and keeping the programs running smoothly.  Administrative assistants help maintain records, process registrations, and verify all of the paperwork is done correctly. 
    Time commitment- Flexible for volunteers.


  • RULES INSTRUCTOR
    Help is needed from golf enthusiasts that understand the rules of the game.  Volunteers will teach golf rules to participants in order to help students progress so they may participate in tournaments.
    Time commitment- Approximately 1.5 hours once a week.  Classes are typically held Monday through Saturdays.
