Cathy Porter, Certified The First Tee Coach

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Cathy is a 1985 graduate of The University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She has also taken graduate classes from Michigan State University and Portland State University.

Cathy has an extensive background in Management. Working for a leading Fortune 500 company for 18 years, Cathy was employed as a manager in Operations, Customer Service, Industrial Engineering and Quality Management. She has been employed with The Children’s Course since 2002.

Anthony Congi

DIRECTOR of DEVELOPMENT and COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Anthony Congi is the Director of Development and Community Relations for The First Tee of Greater Portland.His main duties include: getting out in the public to tell the story of The First Tee throughout the Portland area, educating the public and media about the success stories of our participants and growing the organization as a whole through various fundraising efforts.

Prior to joining The First Tee, Anthony spent the previous 10-years working as media professional and traveled across the country as a television news/sports reporter and anchor. Most recently, you may have seen Anthony on Good Day Oregon where he was a morning reporter and anchor for Fox 12/KPTV in the Portland area.

Justin Ratte

DIRECTOR of PROGRAMMING

Justin is a graduate of Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management with a minor in Psychology. A four-year baseball player for the Flagler Saints, Justin has always had a passion for a wide array of sports. It was this passion that aided Justin in the transition from baseball to golf.

In addition to sports, Justin shares a passion for youth development. He began the journey of making an impact on the community’s youth by way of coaching youth league baseball and basketball teams. In college, Justin learned of The First Tee and began volunteering for various golf events in the area. His enthusiasm and love for children led him to do an internship with The First Tee of North Florida which only built upon his passion for youth development, where he continued to work as Site Coordinator until his transition to the Greater Portland chapter.

Denise Townsend

FUNDRAISING and EVENT COORDINATOR

Denise is a graduate of Concordia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Communications. She worked in Community Investment at a large health insurance company for 20 years where she managed volunteers, employee events and the Employee Giving Campaign. She is past President of the Corporate Volunteer Council of the Greater Portland Area. Denise worked at the March of Dimes Foundation for 8 years as the Director of Special Events managing their largest fundraising events, the March for Babies and Signature Chefs Auction.

She is a member at Riverside Golf and Country Club where she is past Chair of the Social Committee and still is a committee member. She loves managing volunteers and events, has a passion for children and the game of golf!

Daniela Leao

VOLUNTEER and MENTOR COORDINATOR

Daniela is a graduate of University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. During school she worked as a First-Year Interest Group (FIG) Assistant serving as a mentor, academic assistant, and resource for 12 incoming students. As a FIG assistant, she organized educational and social activities to better acquaint her first-year students with each other, faculty members, and the University. Daniela oversees volunteer recruitment, training, and the THRIVE mentor program.

Melissa Ward

OFFICE MANAGER, LPGA/USGA GIRLS GOLF INSTRUCTOR

Melissa is a graduate of Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology. She had a career in the food processing industry and raised three boys before starting as a volunteer at The Children’s Course.

Melissa loves golf for the personal challenge, the exercise, and the social connections. She sees it as the perfect vehicle for connecting with children and sharing life’s most important values.

Carol Erwin, Certified The First Tee Coach

LPGA/USGA GIRLS GOLF DIRECTOR

Carol was raised in Hawaii and graduated from Northern Arizona University. She was an Elementary School Teacher for over 30 years. She has been the Director of the LPGA/USGA program for 20 years and has worked in outreach golf programs for 24 years.

In addition, Carol is head instructor for our Discovery Golf classes and is also a The First Tee instructor.
